What is a packaging machinery?

Packaging machines are used for products packing with the aim of protecting them.

Their use is crucial in many sectors.

In fact, there are:

  • food packaging machines
  • pharmaceutical packaging machines
  • beverage packaging machines
  • transport packaging machines

If we think about it, we see every day how many types of packaging exist for each type of product we consume; each packaging responds to different needs, depending on the
item they have to protect.

Product packaging is a habit that has been existing for centuries, but only since last century it has been assuming a key role, becoming much more than a simple protective cover. Often mandatory and submitted to legal standards, packaging is today also a marketing tool, a brand ambassador especially when we talk about ecological packaging.

What are packaging machines used for?

Their main purpose is to automate the packaging process, with the aim of making it faster and cheaper, increasing the company productivity.
So, let’s not think that packaging machines are in the sole interest of large companies. Today even small companies need to have automatic machines for packaging and packing.

In every sector, packaging responds to specific needs: to keep the content intact as well as avoiding external contaminations from production to consumption.
For example, food product packaging keeps the product intact but also in safe hygienic conditions.
It is precisely according to the function the packaging must perform that the packaging automatic machine is designed: for example, machines for food products packaging, including beverages, must allow a packaging process that guarantees proper hygienic standards.
Packaging machinery for the pharmaceutical sector must ensure maximum isolation of the medicine from external contaminations. The environment must then be clean and sterile.

Features of automatic machines

Automatic machines range from those for primary packaging, that contains products, such as biscuits packs, milk brik, tea bags, chocolate bars wrapper or for secondary packaging, such as a large multipack bag containing several bags of potato chips or carton boxes for cans of beer.

Machines for food products packaging can be considerably different in shape, in size and in the kind of packaging but what is important and can never miss in this type of machine is the high hygienic standard.

With regard to pharmaceutical packaging, it is evident that the prerogatives of these machines are quite peculiar compared to those of any other kind of packaging. Starting from the strict rules on its fundamental aspects, from the materials allowed for the packing, the labelling, up to the care and communication of the content’s nature and medicine administration modes.
The machines for pharmaceutical primary packaging and blister machines require rigid design criteria aimed at ensuring the product’s integrity.

Innovation in the packaging sector

The future of food packaging seems to be the ecological packing, which in recent years is attracting a strong interest by both industry and consumers. Nowadays, producing ecological packaging is a strategic choice of many companies that believe in sustainability.
This ecological trend inevitably goes hand in hand with the search for new materials with innovative features aiming at avoiding or replacing plastic with biodegradable materials, such as cellulose, starch, potato starch, algae, milk processing residues, organic waste and so on. The challenge is to produce resistant materials, able to protect food effectively, easily printable and captivating for the consumer.

C.M.S. SpA and its role in the packaging supply chain

C.M.S. SpA was born in Emilia Romagna, at the centre of the so-called Italian Packaging Valley.
Since 1975 C.M.S. SpA has been producing packaging machines for third parties, working with the aim of providing major players in food and pharmaceutical packaging sector with mechanical parts or complete machines, at top quality level.
In the first years since its foundation,C.M.S. SpA activity was focused on mechanical processing, in particular milling and turning, of components and groups: the final products were packaging machines for Gruppo Fabbri in Vignola, almost the only customer of the company until the end of the 1970s. And precisely towards the end of the ’70s, maybe in 1978, C.M.S. SpA had a crucial meeting for its future: even before its establishment in Modena in 1980, the multinational Tetra Pak began to believe in the reliability and in the strength of our company. Over the years, the relationship is grown until becoming an actual partnership.

In the following years, other customers joined the first ones, mechanical companies acting in several sectors, from textile packaging to tobacco processing, from food product packaging to the production of blistering and packaging machines.

For C.M.S. SpA it becomes crucial to join the customer even before and after the manufacturing of the product; the service expands from co-design and mechanical processing, up to assembly.

What does C.M.S. SpA offer within the packaging sector?

C.M.S. SpA offers its customers a long experience in the production of packaging machineries for third parties, gained by creating mechanical parts and complete constructions of
machineries for medium-sized and multinational companies.

The precision technologies and processes adopted by C.M.S. SpA allow the production automation, time and quality optimization as well as the execution of different complex processes.

Our wide and diversified fleet of machinery allows us to carry out various kind of machining activities.

Thanks to our flexibility, we adapt our services to the needs of the customer, who can choose whether to verticalize the entire supply of a complete machine on C.M.S. SpA
or only the assembly, or the production of mechanical parts.

Quality in C.M.S. SpA

To meet the high standards required in the food packaging sectors, C.M.S. SpA has invested in quality, obtaining different kinds of certifications over the years, starting from the UNI EN ISO 9001 on quality management system, which ensures the ability to meet customers and stakeholders requirements, through the control and optimization of processes, both internal and external, assigned by C.M.S. SpA to its subcontractors; In addition, C.M.S. SpA is certified according to UNI EN ISO 22000 for food safety management system.
Its commitment to quality continues with the certification on welding processes, according to UNI EN ISO 3834-2. The standard of C.M.S. SpA represents the maximum level
within the UNI EN ISO 3834 family.
The certifications obtained by C.M.S. SpA, its staff expertise and the constant checks carried out during each activity ensure the FMC legislation compliance (Food Material Contact) for products delivered to the customer.
Furthermore, C.M.S. SpA has also developed, in its information system, the documentation and markings tracking applied to the single batches. It is therefore able to provide a traceability service for FCMs delivered to the customer, both spare parts and assembly groups.
Rely on C.M.S. SpA for the co-design, industrialization and construction of your packaging machinery.
We will be able to meet your needs!
