“Il Paese dei Colori” (a world of colours) is the name of the C.M.S. nursery school, inspired by values of inclusion and welcoming. Opened on 8 September 2007, the amenity was planned and developed to meet a number of aims: to support C.MS. families and the community, help to achieve the right work-life balance and support parenthood. The project was also warmly welcomed by the Marano sul Panaro Town Council, which appreciated it as a concrete response to the needs of an area with a fast-growing population. The building was designed by architect Cecilia Marzi with a special focus on the children, their parents and the staff, aiming to offer them a comfortable, warm, welcoming place with a family ‘feel’ which would help to stimulate serene, meaningful relationships.

Constructed to sustainability criteria

The nursery school building covers an area of 530 square metres, with grounds of 1400 square metres. Constructed on the latest bioconstruction principles, it has an insulated timber structure and uses certified environment-friendly materials. There is also a special focus on energy saving, with the use of solar panels. The building is surrounded by a large garden with plants and trees, all furnishings and play equipment are in wood, and it features sensory and motor-skill pathways created in natural materials.

Community development and social responsibility

The nursery school can host up to 49 children from 12 to 36 months, with priority access for the children and grandchildren of C.M.S. employees. However, it is also open to children in the community due to an agreement with Unione Terre di Castelli (union of local municipalities).

This agreement demonstrates the company’s commitment to its local area and its determination to contribute to its growth. One of the 37 projects in seven Corporate Social Responsibility areas in which the company has taken part, in 2007 the nursery school won the “Gender Equal Opportunities” category of the Province of Modena CSR Award, a major achievement which rewarded and highlighted the work of Modena-based companies committed to environmental and social sustainability.
